Screen Acting Workshop

Saturday, 10th October, 12-1 pm, South Parish Community Hall, Sawmill Street

Allocated Time: 1 h

This is a taster workshop with the intention of highlighting the most common mistakes in screen acting and to give participants basic techniques for working with the camera.

The workshop will give students an insight into

- the specific requirements of screen acting versus stage acting
- close up work
- casting

Outline:

- Introduction/warm up
- On the floor: exercise in specific tasks versus general emotions
( act looking for something/ really search for something)
- On the floor: close-up work: eliminating overacting
(tell a story of your live / think clear, specific thoughts)
- Casting: cold reading, making quick, strong choices
‘cheating’ to the camera
- Exercise: casting a duologue in cold reading


Workshop Leader:
Stella Majewsky is Artistic Director of the Gaiety School of Acting in Cork.
She was originally trained in the acclaimed Bochum Institute for Acting, and under the auspice of Filmstudio Babelsberg Berlin. She has acted for the major production companies in Germany, including ZDF and SAT 1. Currently she is doing practise based PhD research on screen actors training with The International Film School in the University of Wales.
